From Shalom Broadcasting Network to SBN Media Ghana

SBN TV began in 2018 as Shalom Broadcasting Network. This endeavour was undertaken in line with the strategic visions of the Convention; principally, evangelism and missions and secondary, providing visibility for the denomination.

SBN TV (as Shalom Broadcasting Network) began as a joint collaboration between Deacon Dan Ofori and the Ghana Baptist Convention legally represented by Rev. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi – the Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention. In this respect, SBN TV was initially registered as a limited liability company with Deacon Dan Ofori as the majority shareholder and the Ghana Baptist Convention legally represented by the Executive President, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi as the minority shareholder. During this time, SBN TV operated from East Legon.

The broadcasting license acquired by Deacon Dan Ofori at its inception and gifted to SBN TV was that of a satellite free-to-air license. This was because the digital free-to-air license was not available, and the satellite free-to-air license provided total and quality coverage across the country compared to the digital free-to-air license. The added advantage of the satellite license was that it would aid in the spreading of the Gospel from Ghana to the rest of Africa.

In 2021, Deacon Dan Ofori transferred all the assets of SBN TV fully over to the Ghana Baptist Convention. In this regard, SBN Media Ghana was registered as a company limited by guarantee with the GBC Trustees as its principals who received the transferred assets of Shalom Broadcasting Network. Hence, the transferred assets of the erstwhile Shalom Broadcasting Network were received by the new company, SBN Media Ghana LBG through the GBC trustees represented by Judge, Mrs. Rebecca Sittee and Rev. Kwadwo Asante. This resulted in SBN TV relocating from East Legon to operate at the Baptist House, Abelemkpe.

The Ghana Baptist Convention retained the abbreviation of SBN and the channel name, SBN TV. However, the station since the formation of the new company has been operating under a new governance/management structure which is overseen by a board, chaired by Deacon Samuel Sarpong.
